Q&A
Answering questions about bathroom design business The Tap End with Lynda Rees, Director at The Tap End Bathrooms, Pontyclun.
Q A
Why did you want to open a bathroom company, what led you to that point in your career?
When I was younger, I always wanted to be a buyer, I really love unique clothing and products.
Whilst renovating my own home with my husband I really caught the bug for interiors and I think that having a passion for unique clothing and products fed into interiors nicely. Te renovation process was such hard work but rewarding at the same time, and certainly when you look back its something to be proud of. During that renovation I purchased bathrooms from a design company and I subsequently ended up working for that company. Tat is where I met my now business partner Justine and following on from that we set up Te Tap End together in Pontyclun where we have a dedicated bathroom design showroom.
Q
What is it about your role at Te Tap End that you like the most?
A
I really enjoy working with clients who are doing large renovations or self builds. Tis process is a lengthy
one and I like building relationships with clients over this period. Undertaking a large renovation or self-build is an extremely stressful process and oſten it starts out extremely exciting, clients are full of ideas and energy but by the time the build comes to an end there will have been so many ups and downs. Having undertaken a renovation myself previously I feel that I can relate to this in a very personal way. It is reassuring for clients to know that I understand what they are doing, and it is normal for the project to take twice as long, cost twice as much and be twice as stressful than they first thought! I like the hand holding and going on the journey with the client. Clients doing a project like this are usually more quality conscious and want things to last, I enjoy introducing clients to brands and products that suit their brief and budget and helping them to shape their new home so that they will love it for years to come.

Q A
What is your favourite bathroom item or product on the market?
I like creative products or multifunctional products. Something that has a dual purpose, for example
we sell bathroom stools that double up as side tables so for a room with a freestanding bath you can use this stool to put your soaps, candles, shampoos on but then you can also use this same product in the shower as a shower seat. My ultimate favourite product aesthetically is a range designed by internationally acclaimed designer Patricia Urquiola, she has collaborated with Swiss brand Laufen on a range called Sonar and I love each and every piece. Te range includes textured baths and basins, metallic finish vanity units and marble vanity tops and the quality is outstanding.
