could jump anything. My long term aim with him is to hopefully jump in the King George at Hickstead. Dad won it in 2010.
We were very fortunate to jump at Bolesworth the following week. It’s a great ring and very similar to the type you find abroad. The team there took on the National Championships with just three weeks notice. The Championships are normally run by Grandstand Media, who run Horse of the Year Show, but once again Covid-19 caused disruption and they could not run the show this year. Bolesworth did an excellent job, I am proud to be Ambassador of the National Championships and I enjoyed the chance to do a few interviews online for the show. I jumped Kandleford and Cacharel in the big classes, I was really pleased with both of them. Union Jack owned by Fay Harris and Teddy both jumped really well, as did Angelique.
I spent a day with Will jumping Cash and Didi over some bigger tracks, they both felt really good. They saw the physio and went to the water treadmill too, and of course the vet checked them over to make sure he was happy with them both. We have always made sure that every box is ticked off and then as a rider you know you can go into the ring feeling very confident.
The drive to Norway takes three days, Charlotte will share the driving with Zoe, who grooms for Will. They will drive to Germany, rest the horses for around 10 or 12 hours then drive to Denmark and do the same before they get onto the
Union Jack, wearing what we call his ‘Batman Mask’, it helps him relax.
Ferry across to Oslo. The show is about an hour from the ferry; at each stop the horses get to stretch their legs and enjoy a good rest. As previously mentioned, Charlotte and Zoe are sharing the driving so they get plenty of rest too.
Gunner has been very busy with his stud work; there are now more than 10 mares in foal all over the Country. We have two here in foal to him and one in foal to Billy Toto as well.
I will be keeping everyone up to date on my travels and shows. Keep an eye on my social media pages for day to day news.
