Challaborough


A small beach with lots of amenities and safe bathing with lifeguard cover through the summer season. Dog bans apply from 1st May to 30th September.

East Portlemouth /Millbay


Sheltered sandy beaches in Salcombe harbour with access across the estuary by passenger ferry to Salcombe town. East Portlemouth and Millbay are ideal beaches from which to watch the sailing life of Salcombe glide past. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is one of the quieter beaches in the area. Great for splashing in shallow waters plus plenty of exploring to do at low tide when there is a wealth of rockpools.


* Georgina Crutchfield Nothing beats beach life Ayrmer Cove


A remote and picturesque sandy cove with rock pools and a 20 minute walk from the National Trust car park at Ringmore. No facilities.


Hope Cove Bantham


A popular shallow sandy bay, making it an ideal beach for BBQs and watching the sunset. Great for surfing and rockpooling with dunes and large car park. Lunch at Bantham Village Stores & Cafe. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between May and September they are allowed on the Estuary all year round, which you can get to at low tide.


* Beesands


A mile-long shingle beach backed by fields and a freshwater lake. It’s ideal for children and dogs, but be careful when swimming as the beach shelves.


Large sandy and sheltered beaches ideal for children with rockpooling and safe swimming. No dogs allowed from 1st May to 30th September on Mouthwell Sands but welcome all year on Harbour Beach as long as they are kept on a lead at all times.


Gara Beach


A fairly steep 10 minute walk gets you to this sandy beach with breathtaking views.


Mothecombe


One of the quieter beaches, this private sandy beach is on the west shore of the river Erme. Refreshments at the Cafe in the car park. No dogs are allowed from 1st May to 30th September.

(North Sands)


Large, flat and sandy. Ideal for kids to build sandcastles and for rockpooling. The beach is totally submerged at high tide. Large car park and cafe/restaurant.


* (South Sands)


A sandy beach at the mouth of Salcombe Har- bour. Also accessible by ferry from Salcombe. Above the beach is National Trust Overbeck’s, on the beach is South Sands hotel. No dogs are allowed from 1st May to 30th September.


* Soar Mill Cove


One can only access the beach on foot, via the South West Coast Path or past the Soar Mill Cove Hotel. Rockpooling and old fashioned family beach fun.

Ferry


Slapton Sands/Torcross Lannacombe


Sand and shingle with rock formations to explore, an ideal quiet family beach. At low tide, the waters reveal shallow rock pools. Accessible only by a narrow lane, with a small private car park and no facilities.


This whole area is well known as it was used during WWII by the Americans who were practising for the D-Day landings. A road runs between the shingle bank on the sea side and a lovely freshwater lake. Plenty of car parking available.


* South Milton Sands


Large, family and dog friendly sandy beach protected by a reef of rocks - ideal for rockpooling. The well known Thurlestone rock stands in the centre of the bay.


Bigbury-on-Sea


Large sandy beach with tidal causeway or sea tractor from Bigbury-on-Sea to Burgh Island. Bodyboarding, surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Dogs are only allowed on part of the beach from 1st May to 30th September.


* Blackpool Sands


A privately managed fine shingle beach in a sheltered bay surrounded by evergreens and pines. Its ‘Blue Flag’ Award makes it one of the most popular family beaches in the region. No dogs are allowed between March and October.


* Mattiscombe


A serene and unspoilt sandy beach with plenty of rock formations to explore. The beach is a 15 minute walk from Start Point Lighthouse. There is safe swimming but no facilities but portaloo can be found in the Start Point Car Park.


22 Marceley Cove


Maceley Cove near the rural village of East Prawle is about a 20 minute walk west from Prawle Point car park. With it’s soft sand perfect for sun bathing and crystal clear waters for the kids to swim, this hidden gem is defiantly one to check out! (No facilities, dogs allowed all year, is suitable for swimming)
