HOME WORKING IS NEW NORMAL FOR ACCOUNTANTS

Joining Kettering-based CFW Chartered Accountants as the UK headed into lockdown was a very new experience for senior accountants Sophie McIntyre and Christina Carrara. Both were new starters in early March and, after only a few days at CFW’s offices, were transitioned to home working along with the rest of the CFW team. Sophie McIntyre graduated

from De Montfort University, Leicester, with a first class honours degree in Accounting and Finance in 2018. After two years’ experience as an audit and account assistant, she joins CFW as a Senior Accountant. She said: “Doing a stocktake by Facetime was a new one for me! Working from home is also not something I’ve done before but I’ve been kept in the loop and the CFW team is so friendly and helpful; it’s a supportive working environment and that’s boosted my confidence.” With a first class honours

degree in Accounting with Psychology, Chartered Accountant Christina Carrara is a 2016 graduate of Northampton University. She joined CFW after three years at an accountancy firm in Milton Keynes. She said: “It’s certainly been a surreal experience working from home. Everyone at CFW’s been very supportive under the circumstances, I’ve felt very welcome. Moving to a larger firm with more partners is a great opportunity for me to broaden my experience and my first few weeks have been amazing.” CFW Partner Anthony

Stevens said: “We’re delighted to welcome Sophie and Christina. We recognize that joining a new firm and working remotely is a challenge but they have both adapted very well and already feel very much part of our team.” CFW Chartered

Accountants and Business Advisers is based in Kettering and offers a wide range of services including preparing VAT returns, payroll, accounts, audit, tax returns, management accounts and cash flow projections.

ENROL IN THE VIRTUAL BALLYHOO PR ACADEMY

Corby PR agency Ballyhoo PR is launching an academy to teach local businesses how to do their own PR. Originally, the Ballyhoo PR Academy was to be a

physical course encompassing six monthly classes. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ballyhoo PR director Emma Speirs has taken the decision to change the format and take the academy online. Emma said: “The plan was for the Ballyhoo PR

Academy to take on a small number of cohorts and run six monthly sessions, each focusing on a different element of public relations. The group will also become a community, helping each other to spot press opportunities and share their successes. “I have carefully considered whether this will still be

‘THE

possible in September and have taken the decision to create an online community instead – at least for the inaugural class of 2020.” The Ballyhoo PR Academy will now start on Wednesday 30 September with bi-weekly Zoom classes and a closed Facebook group. Classes are designed for business

GROUP WILL

ALSO BECOME A COMMUNITY, HELPING EACH OTHER’

owners or those working in marketing roles for a small or medium-sized business (SMEs) and have responsibility for generating press coverage for the company. Numbers will be kept to a maximum of eight people to allow everyone to get bespoke advice tailored to them and their business.

The virtual Ballyhoo PR Academy costs £99 a month for three months. To register your interest or

needed to reconfigure the office to create additional space for this and future growth. “This investment was a big step

for us and we were so pleased to work with fellow Chamber members, ACS and Ashby Computers on the project.” Ashby Computer Services chief
