21 BC’s largest farm show kicks off new year
Trade show will host close to 300 exhibitors There is talk of expanding
Tradex in Abbotsford. For Pacific Agriculture Show co-ordinator Jim Shepard, that expansion cannot come soon enough.

“As usual, we are sold out
for the 2020 show,” coming to Tradex January 30-February 1, Shepard says, claiming he has enough exhibitors on the waiting list to fill a space twice the size of Tradex. There will be close to 300 exhibitors inside the two exhibit halls. Joining the many familiar faces will be new technology-based exhibitors. “We’re particularly
interested in exhibitors which want to show farmers new technology to improve their efficiency,” Shepard says. A few years ago, PAS
started exhibiting larger equipment outside the building and the size of those exhibits continues to grow. One of the outside features is Bobcat Country’s square dance, now in its third year. This year, the show is adding a remote-controlled skid steer demonstration.
MNP will again host the
Thursday opening reception in the MNP Pavilion at the south end of Wing 2. The daily growers luncheon and Aldor Acres’ popular petting zoo will both be in the MNP Pavilion as will Frankie, a micro-pig the PAS has adopted as its mascot. Trade show entry is included with registrations for the Horticulture Short Course, BC Dairy Expo and Canna- Tech West Expo. Those who only wish to attend the trade show and/or the BC Innovation Day Friday

afternoon can get tickets at the door. Cost is $15 for adults and
$10 for seniors and 4-H members. Children under 14 are admitted free. Trade show admission is good for multiple entries all three days. Kubota is again providing free parking.
Gala Another sellout is expected
for the BC Agriculture Industry Gala at the Quality Inn in Abbotsford, Wednesday, January 29. The annual gala is timed to coincide with the Pacific Agriculture Show and acts as its unofficial start. Tickets can be purchased at [
www.bcac.ca/galatickets]. Once tickets are sold out, people will be put on a waiting list. Highlighting the gala is the
presentation of three awards: the BC Agriculture Council Leadership Award, the Agriculture in the Classroom
(BCAITC) Teacher of the Year and the Scotiabank Champion of Agriculture.
The gala includes a silent
auction, with proceeds to benefit the Agriculture in the
Classroom Foundation. It will again be a digital auction, with both gala attendees and others able to bid using their smartphones. Last year’s auction raised
over $10,000 and BCAC communications coordinator Cassy James hopes this year’s auction will at least match that amount. Proceeds from the auction go to the BCAITC.
