Northam Town Council held its first Zoom Full Council meeting on Wednesday 13th May. Along with members some residents joined the meeting and spoke on various subjects under Public Participation. The Town Clerk gave a report to update members on what has taken place since the lockdown and due to the grants evening not taking place the Town Clerk to pay by BACS those charities and
arranged organisa-
tions that had been awarded grants. Sadly the Council was not able to take part in the VE
Day celebrations at Holy Trinity Church in Westward Ho! but when we return to normality no doubt we will have a celebratory church service. Many other Civic events with other Councils were also cancelled and this included our Northam May Fair. Also our Mondeville Twinning friends who were due to join us in May from France have had to cancel their visit. The Town Clerk has worked with volunteer groups and TTVS to ensure that vulnerable residents in the Northam area are getting help with food deliveries. There are just under 7,500 households who will be receiving information with contact numbers on a leaflet that is being distributed to ensure that no vulnerable residents are left out. Despite the lockdown our Councillor Advocate has managed to recruit six volunteers on the speed watch initiative in conjunction with the police and once the Government lift the restrictions this will be put in place. Northam Burrows have been closed to vehicles by TDC but unfortunately some dog owners have not kept their dogs under control and several lambs have been seriously injured. Northam Town Council are trustees of the grazing so this news comes as a great sadness. I would like to thank the Town Clerk and staff for continuing to work on Council business and setting up Zoom so that we can resume Full Council and committee meetings. Our apprentice has also volunteered to help in the community in addition to her Council work. The maintenance crew have continued to cut the grass verges as directed by DCC and now have returned to full time work. They will endeavour to keep our area looking well cared for and spick and span. We will soon have our new website up and running so please keep a lookout for future Council meetings and events. I wish you all well and keep safe.
