SELECT responds to recent Member feedback by launching a new half-day seminar in emergency lighting

ELECT is delighted to announce the introduction of a new half-day seminar on emergency lighting. The course is recommended for anyone who is responsible for the maintenance of


emergency lighting systems and the collating of relevant information on an emergency lighting log book. At the end of the course, the candidates will have a knowledge and understanding of BS 5266-1:2016 and other associated standards.


They will also be aware of their responsibilities and the need for maintenance, testing and certifi cation of emergency lighting systems. The course will cover the general requirements of BS 5266-1:2016 including the choice, design, installation and certifi cation of emergency lighting systems. It will also include the following changes from the previous standard: ●Clearer guidance covering the requirements for escape route emergency lighting luminaries and signs in diff erent types of premises ●Guidance including illustrations on the emergency lighting requirements for diff erent types and sizes of rooms ●Guidance on the requirements where sudden loss of an individual normal lamp could prejudice safety ●Clearer guidance on the types of wiring systems and test facilities


required for emergency lighting ●New improved certifi cation ●Guidance on the evaluation of existing premises to help decide if the emergency lighting system is adequate for its current use.


SELECT Training Manager Jenny Cryans said: “Members have been asking us for training for employees who are responsible for the maintenance of emergency lighting systems and the collating of relevant information within an emergency lighting log book. “As a result, we’ve created this half-day seminar to provide them with further information about this topic and assist them with the role.” The emergency lighting courses are planned for later this year at a venue to be confi rmed. The cost of the seminar will be £70 + VAT for SELECT Members.
