What’s On
Malling & district clubs, societies & activities
IT IS never too late to make a fresh start by taking up new activities or making new friends. The many clubs and organisations in the Malling Action Partnership area cater for a wide range of interests and offer a warm welcome to newcomers, so why not give them a try? Details of regular meetings are listed on this page. Trudy Dean collates our community diary with details of various groups and is also compiling a list of special events
in the area in 2020. So if you would like your group or event to be included, please send her all the information, includ- ing your contact details.
Please let her know as far in advance as possible so that it may be possible to avoid clashes and maximise the atten- dances at each event.
Details should be emailed to

Larkfield Residents should call 07563 196479 New yellow lines and parking restrictions
A NUMBER of proposals for yellow lines in the area have been approved.
These include round the junctions of Temple Way and Meridian Place, East Malling.
There will also be an extension to those in Brooklands Road, and a section of The Lakes, Larkfield, to prevent pavement parking. The yellow lines in Papyrus Way, New Hythe, are to be modified to allow overnight parking, except by lorries. A number of
residents expressed concerns about the spaces being misused by lorries parking overnight and Cllr David Thornewell warned the scheme might need to be reviewed if problems arise. A proposal to use Chaucer Way for overnight parking will not be pursued due to fears that displaced cars would move into the nearby closes instead.
All the schemes were subject to two rounds of public consultation and we now await the signs and lines to appear.
Road repair blitz
KENT County Council has agreed that it has enough money to repair the whole of Leybourne Way from the A228 to New Hythe Lane.
Last winter David Thornewell and Trudy Dean had a site meeting with road engineers and were told it was not bad enough to repair.
Plover Road is to receive micro resurfacing from Swallow Road as far as number 46 (that is a fast waterproof sealing
of the road surface by applying a mix of hot tar and chippings after filling potholes). and machine resurfacing is planned for:
A20 London Road from Castle Way to New Hythe Lane Leybourne Way from the A228 to New Hythe Lane; A228 from Leybourne Way to junction 4 M20 and; A228 Malling Road from the A26 roundabout to Blaise Farm Roundabout at Ashton Way.
Despite many written objections and local councillors’ arguments, TMBC has approved increases in car parking charges in West Malling from April. Shoppers will now pay an increase of 10p per hour. Long stay parking permit charges for the Ryarsh Lane car park increase from £175 to £255 per year. ( This car park remains free to the public without permits after
Borough Council approves higher car park charges 3pm every day.)
Introducing charges in Martin Square and Snodland were delayed pending surveys to establish who uses the parking. A similar survey in West Malling was refused. Borough Green car park remains free on Saturdays whilst Saturday charges remain In West Malling.
