Scotland’s busiest box port, Grangemouth welcomed a major cargo of its own on 11 February when it took delivery of five new Kalmar/ Cargotec straddle carriers as part of a multi-million-pound investment. The ESC 440 diesel- electric machines were built in Port of Gdynia, Poland and shipped aboard the specialist cargo ship Taiga Desgagnes. The new straddles are the


first phase of series of taller equipment purchased by the port group in Scotland to increase capacity by allowing containers to be stacked up


to three high, compared with two currently, and increasing capacity by 50%. Senior port manager,


Derek Knox, said: “The arrival of our five new Kalmar/ Cargotec straddle carriers is an important asset and will facilitate increased container volumes moving through the port in the coming months and years. This investment builds on a year of growth in container volumes in Grangemouth despite the current economic uncertainty. He added: “The additional capacity that will be created

grown signifi cantly since the move to the German city in 2018. The 2020 edition will feature 70 new companies, including Sarens, CEVA Logistics, DP World, and Airbus (the latter has chosen Breakbulk Europe to promote its new Beluga XL aircraſt ). New for 2020 will be a pair


of professional workshops focused on risk management and chartering essentials, an Education Day for local students and those new or looking to enter the industry and the fi rst Europe-based Women

said: “We are committed to bringing a world-class event to this industry that is critical to the world’s economy. As we move further into this decade, we will consider alternate locations for 2022 and beyond to deliver new markets and fresh thinking, but for now, Bremen is the right choice and we would not hesitate to return in the future.” Breakbulk Europe is one of
