“Before we undertake a litter pick a risk assessment is undertaken, these can vary in complexity according to when, where and what type of litter pick we are undertaking. If in doubt we won’t touch something and instead notify the Council, the same goes for large objects that are too bulky for us.

litter picking equipment. Wiltshire Council have been great at picking up the rubbish we collect and we work with Calne Our Place who are kind enough to cover our insurance and help us with risk assessments.

“We mainly cover Calne but a couple of times a year we attack the A4 Beckhampton to Calne and Calne to Chippenham, and also Calne to Hilmarton. We do have some village routes as we have a group in HIlmarton, Goatacre and Lower Compton. The aim would be to have a group in every village and to pass the baton on from village to village. We have also undertaken river cleans through Castlefields.

“If you are interested in joining us there is no membership fee just simply message us through our facebook page where we also post forthcoming litter picks or email calnecleanupcrew@hotmail.com. Volunteers who have adopted routes might post for people to come and join in. We are quite a social lot.

“I strongly believe that if we all did a little bit we really can make a difference. We have a scheme called ‘I’m in’ which is very simple, you just pick up and clean up outside your house. If everyone did this we would all be doing well at keeping things nice. We should all take some pride in and responsibility for where we live rather than expecting someone else to make it nice.
