LIVE 24-SEVEN THE COPPER FOX A WELCOMING VIBE & GREAT FOOD. . .

78

As a family, our favourite choice of restaurant when dining out is Indian. So, the excitement levels were elevated by the prospect of reviewing The Copper Fox, a family owned bar and restaurant that offers a different take on authentic Indian cuisine.

We met the owner Manni at the bar for a pre-dinner drink. Specialising in, but certainly not restricted to local ales, it’s extremely popular with locals of Harborne. The vibrant, friendly bar and grill is beautifully decorated, it felt relaxed – the type of place to meet friends, family and socialise with colleagues.

The menu is extensive, something for everyone, even the pickiest of diners. Taking Rana’s advice, we ordered a signature grill for starters - chicken tikka, chicken wings, seekh kebab, lamb chops and fish tikka all served on a sizzling bed of fried onions. Mouthwateringly good, everything was so fresh, tender and brilliantly flavoursome. A super way to start any meal, and generous in size too…so no issues sharing!

For mains I opted for the best prawn curry I’ve ever tasted. Tiger king prawns cooked in the chef’s special sauce, oh to have that sauce recipe! To accompany it we opted for the chicken jalfrezi - juicy pieces of chicken prepared with onions, peppers, spices and herbs, and a wickedly good lamb bhuna. The special bhuna sauce with spring onions and spices enveloped the tender lamb which was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. I highly recommend the chilli chicken too with generous chunks of chicken pieces, onion and pepper cooked with chefs special Indo-Chinese sauce.

The chef certainly knows his way around the ingredients, the sauces that accompany each dish are just delicious and perfectly compliment the meat or fish that accompanies them. There are some great sides to choose from to include; lentils cooked in garlic, tomatoes and cream whilst they don’t scrimp when it comes to the toppings of the naans either! Our garlic naan was garnished with fresh garlic and coriander and topped with butter – close your eyes and imagine that mopping up the remainder of your dish…

The well-presented dishes were placed in the centre of our table ready for us all to dip in. My husband commented that the naans were the most delicious he’s ever eaten, and believe me he’s seasoned to Indian food. Rana explained that they are cooked in the traditional way in a clay tandoor. It’s this authenticity that is evident in every dish whilst the sourcing policy ensures everything is super fresh, the kitchen team being very picky about what they buy and where from.
