n July 2017, the Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts, Matthew Taylor, published a report called Good Work – The Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices. This report looked into many aspects of modern employment, ranging from the gig economy and employment status to holiday pay calculations and contracts of employment.
As a result of this study, as well as
extensive public consultation, several recommendations were made for changes to the landscape of employment law in the UK. One of these concerned Written Statements of Particulars. A Written Statement of Particulars sets
out the terms and conditions under which an employer expects work to be carried out, relating to a contract of service or apprenticeship. Its purpose is to set out the terms and conditions under which work will be carried out, and under which employment will be provided. From 6 April 2020, all new employees and workers, including electrical operatives, apprentices and office staff, have a ‘day-one’ right to a Written Statement of Particulars.
