Common Dilemmas 1. Poisoning: Tell your vet what you suspect may have been eaten and how long ago. Within an hour, we may be able to give an emetic to bring it back up and begin appropriate treatment.
2. Bloat: If you notice your dog’s stomach suddenly becoming very swollen and tight like a drum, they should be seen immediately for treatment.
3. To pee or not to pee? If your male pet is repeatedly straining to pass water, it may be caused by a urinary stone or fine gravel obstruction. This is very painful and needs immediate veterinary attention to clear the blockage.
4. Fly-strike: If you find maggots on your pet please seek help straight away.
5. ”He’s just really poorly”: You may just detect subtle changes in your pet’s behaviour. This may be due to serious problems such as pancreatitis, pneumonia or a womb infection.
Does my vet have an emergency service? Do find out where you will have to take your pet in an emergency, so that you are happy with the route-finding and service provided.
