he Menu, most importantly - 2-3 friends, every friend has to bring someone that the
others haven’t met before. You’re not trying to set up blind dates but just meeting new people in a no pressure environment.
You’re going to organise a meal with starters and sharing dishes prepared by all the guests.
Some dishes can be quickly put together and cooked to share while everyone takes part in creating the main meal. These could be simple nibbles such as crispy roasted sprouting purple broccoli or spiced roasted nuts with, of course, a delicious cocktail.
I find people are always more relaxed and able to chat and get to know each other when food
is present. And this is how I met my gorgeous partner so I can recommend it.
I would suggest non complex dishes where preparation can be shared out but are still innovative and a little unusual.
Everyone loves Italian. Using small, ideally homemade pizza bases, everyone can make their favourite with basic ingredients such as little tomatoes, fresh herbs, fresh olives, cured meat, mozzarella, goat cheese, spinach and marinated vegetables. Include a variety of more unusual ingredients such as gorgonzola to spark conversation.
Or try Brushetta. A sour dough bread grilled and rubbed with olive oil and garlic with a variety
of toppings; asparagus, rocket leaves and parmesan shavings, mozzarella with balsamic glazed and marinated olives in olive oil, borlotti beans with fresh anchovies and sun-blushed tomatoes. Try making your own bread, a quick and easy one like Focaccia, ideal for dipping in olive oil.
Spanish Tapas is also very popular. Shared platter of olives, bread and oil board, humus and guacamole. Another platter of cured meats including sliced chorizo, Serrano ham. Don’t forget a bean salad, stuffed peppadews with feta cheese, battered squid rings, sautéed chorizo with red wine, potato bravas, meat balls with grilled peppers and tomato sauce with basil, Green Mussels with saffron and shallots.
