KFR – A year in the planning by Dan Thompson

W

ith the constant desire for more space on site KFR embarked on a project

about 18 months ago. Our current set up; a rather large storage container in the far corner of our warehouse that housed our toilet block. A little too big for our requirements this unit took up vital floor space that could be used for better purposes.

At the opposite end of our warehouse there was a redundant room that was used for storing wood, as luck would have it this was home to all the necessary components to build new toilets for our staff on site. In January 2019 we received £5k of funding for this project and the decision was made to match this from our own funds and start planning the works.

In August 2019 our builders commenced work on our new toilets and were finished and ready to use by October. The last piece

of this project was to remove the old redundant container from our warehouse. Gaigers, our landlord, had already agreed to remove this free of charge but in order for this to be completed we would need to first empty our warehouse entirely of furniture; for those of you that have visited KFR this was not an easy thing to do.

On the 10th January 2020, with the help from a few friends from the Aster Group and Herman Miller, we

totally emptied our warehouse, the container was safely and efficiently moved by Gaigers, then we put everything back in, it was quite the logistical move.

This additional space has allowed us to redesign our floor space and engineering bay giving us the ability to increase output in refurbishing more items of white goods for those on low incomes.

Many thanks to the whole KFR team and all our friends who have helped.
