LIVELINE DECEMBER
Let us begin the month by embracing social media, and welcoming YouTube sensation Robin Skinner, otherwise known as Cavetown, to Epic Studios on the 3rd. Plenty of ukulele selfies and vlogging opportunities at that one.
Sixteen years aſter declaring that they believe in a thing called love, The Darkness simply will not let the bells end. They have permission to land at the Nick Rayns LCR on the 5th.
The 'Barnsley Nightingale', Kate Rusby, will be singing her Christmas heart out at the Theatre Royal on the 8th. For more details, check her Twitter page.
If you missed their last visit to Norwich, never mind. The Buzzcocks will be at The Waterfront on the 11th. Did you see what I did there?
Shaun Ryder brings his Happy Mondays back to the Nick Rayns LCR on the 12th. Which happens to be a Thursday. Get your Kinky Afro on for that one.
Come to Norwich Arts Centre on the 17th for a Sonic Youths showcase that features the one and only Peach Club as headliners. Cherry Babies, Bad Bitches, and much, much
more from Norwich's very own riot grrrls.
For an evening of operatic pop and barbershop get along to St Andrews Hall on the 20th, when vocal quartet G4 bring their Christmas tour to Norwich. No problems with security at that one.
There will be Bad Manners enough for everyone when Buster Bloodvessel and the gang take the stage for their annual visit to Epic Studios on the 21st. Talk loudly into your mobile phone, then dance the Can-Can down Magdalen Street at the end of that one.
For possibly the best live music to end 2019, head to The Brickmakers on the 31st (obviously), where The Bloodshake Chorus will be whipping up a night to remember. Their cover of Jolene, like all their songs, is something else. Happy New Year everybody.
JANUARY
Aſter all the excitement and indulgences of Christmas and New Year it comes as no surprise to find that the beginning of January can be a little light on live gigs. First out of the blocks, though, are Norwich jazz-funksters, Mengelmoes, who launch

THE BEST LIVE MUSIC FOR THE MONTHS AHEAD
All right Liveliners, this is the big one. Two months that see us facing a General Election, surviving Christmas, and entering a new decade. If we ever needed live music to maintain our spirits and sense of goodwill then it is now. Fortunately, Norwich venues have pulled out their stops to bring you some of the best names in music during December and then, aſter a short break, crank it up again in January as we roar into the Twenties. Hold on to your hats, it's going to be a sleigh ride and a half...
their new single at the Waterfront Studio on the 3rd. Gentlemen, we salute you!
They are swiſtly followed by Sons of Mark, who kick off Norwich Arts Centre's new decade on the 4th. Come and check out local brothers Glen and Owen, and see if you can find Mark at the bar.
Meanwhile, prepare for the return of The Baghdaddies to Norwich Arts Centre on the 10th. Their exotic mix of Balkan, Ska and Latin rhythms always gets the whole room Daddie-dancing.
Dutch metal band MagnaCult visit the UK for the first time in 10 years, and are appearing at The B2 on the 17th. Not to be confused with MagnaCarta. That is in the British Library.
And more melodic death metal comes to The Waterfront on the 18th, courtesy of Finnish band Insomnium. I shall stay awake for that one.
Classic bluesmen Savoy Brown return to the UK for just three days in January, concluding their short tour at the Banham Barrel on the 19th. Brown blues in a barrel. Not to be missed.
And if you are feeling really brave, cross the border into Suffolk and share a glass of Lilac Wine with Elkie Brooks
on the 24th at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds. Find out whether Pearl is still a singer.
Local favourites Hank will be joined by Sleemo and Pin-Ups when they headline a Tilting Sky evening at the Waterfront Studio on the 25th. The ticket also include admission to Meltdown for those aged 18+.
Fans of funky acid jazz and lovers of the Hammond organ should beat a path to the Maddermarket Theatre on the 29th for The James Taylor Quartet. Nobody swings it quite like the JTQ.
And finally, end the month on a high with Cardiff rock band Himalayas, returning to Norwich aſter supporting Reignwolf back in November. They will be parking their Sherpa van at the back of the Waterfront Studio on the 31st.
So that's it for another two months. February is the month of love, and daylight hours are slowly starting to lengthen. New Year resolutions may already be in tatters, the climate may be out of control, and Summer may seem a long way off, but if you keep the faith, live music will surely get you there.
