Barnsley solicitors are nominated for three legal awards

Leading Barnsley law firm, MKB Solicitors LLP, were nominated for three awards at the prestigious Yorkshire Legal Awards, which took place in Leeds in October 2019. The firm was nominated for the

Small Firm of the Year Award, an award it previously won in 2016. Partner and Head of Employment, Ben McFeely, was nominated for the Rising Star award while Joanna Longfellow, a Solicitor in MKB’s Private Client department, was nominated for the Private Client award. The categories were judged by prominent legal peers in the region. Recognising recent success since

being promoted to Head of Employment at MKB, as well as his prominence in the Yorkshire legal

market, Ben McFeely’s nomination as Rising Star was as a result of success he has had in the legal sector at a young age. He also contributes significantly

‘A platform

to the local community in Barnsley, through his appointment as a Trustee of leisure operator Barnsley Premier Leisure and through his regular charity work in tandem with the firm. Joanna

to demonstrate the talent and dedication our team possess’

Longfellow was recognised for the quality of her legal work in the Private Client department at MKB, and her

contribution to the Barnsley community. Joanna was particularly

noted for her specialism in

assisting elderly clients, and is the only solicitor within a five-mile radius of Barnsley town centre that is a full accredited member of the Solicitors for the Elderly

organisation. Joanna is also a Dementia Friends champion and has trained over 200 Dementia Friends who now have a better understanding and awareness of dementia. Steven Dawson, Senior Partner,

said: “It was fantastic for the firm to be nominated in three categories at the Yorkshire Legal Awards. It is often difficult to promote and celebrate the success of law firms outside of the cities, but this gave us a platform to demonstrate the talent and dedication our team possess.”

Ben McFeely said: “I was

delighted to hear of my nomination, but it did recognise the efforts of all my team in the Employment department. I am also grateful for the opportunities presented to me at a young age in this profession which has allowed me to form the team I now lead.” Joanna Longfellow added: “I was

really pleased my work for the elderly was recognised and I will continue to serve my clients with the upmost dedication. It was very exciting that a Barnsley firm was nominated for three awards.”

L-R: Sarah Power, Howard Dapin, Rochelle Newson, Ellie Hirst and Julia Wilding

Following another successful year, Chadwick Lawrence has recently made two new appointments. The appointments come as the firm look to develop the talent internally and continue to strengthen their wills and probate service offering. Ellie Hirst, who joined as a

paralegal, and Rochelle Newson, who is now a qualified solicitor, will both work primarily in the wills and probate department. Ellie joined Chadwick Lawrence

Rochelle Newson joined Chadwick Lawrence on a full-time basis in 2015 as a paralegal and went on to complete her training contract; she has now been appointed as a solicitor in the wills and probate department. She is based at Dock Street and as well as playing a pivotal role in the department, she will support and train junior employees. Sarah Power, Partner at Chadwick Lawrence, said: “I am extremely excited to have both Ellie and Rochelle on the wills and probate team. It is great to see new and current employees progressing here at Chadwick Lawrence. I hope they both continue to push themselves and take advantage of the opportunities we as a firm have to offer.”
