New President Matt takes office at AGM

Matt Jackson, Joint Managing Director of WorkBox UK, took on the role of President of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October. Setting out his goals for the next 12 months, Matt said: “The theme for my presidential year is

‘The Chamber of the Future’, where we look to modernise the Chamber in the following ways: “Perception – for too long the Chamber has been perceived as an old boy’s club

predominantly for manufacturing businesses, I want to make it clear this is not the case! We represent many modern and innovative businesses in a diverse range of sectors and the Chamber is a place for all businesses, from all sectors, to connect and grow. “Premises – the lease on our current premises expires in 2020 and we are looking at

options for new premises that will portray a modern image for the Chamber and provide a working environment in keeping with our goals, such as co-working. We hope to offer our members a collaboration space and coffee bar, allowing them to work closely with both the Chamber, and one another. “Agenda - while we will continue to lobby hard on the keys issues such as HS2 and

Devolution, we will also work closer with influential city stakeholders to ensure we are representing what businesses need in terms of infrastructure and support. Key to this is a clear economic strategy across multiple sectors for the city. In this changing world, as a younger generation shape our future, we will also engage and promote important social agendas relevant to business, such as mental health and wellbeing. We will also keep championing entrepreneurship through our Business and Enterprise Academy at The Sheffield College. “Finally, sectors – I want to connect and work with

‘I look forward to my

up and coming industry sectors in Sheffield such as digital. I would like to see our membership base increase and new connections made so collaboration between businesses can happen more freely and everyone can learn and grow. “I look forward to my year in office to develop the Chamber, and I am proud to be representing the business community at a time of social and political change. I look forward to assisting our members, meeting new businesses and working with our charity of the year, The Children’s Hospital Charity.” Matt, born and educated in Sheffield, has worked in and around the

year in office to develop the Chamber’

city for over 20 years. Starting his career working for well-established Sheffield businesses such as Irwin Mitchell and VOW Wholesale, in 2006 Matt set up his own commercial construction and fit out business, UK Workspace. In 2019, Matt merged the business with the high-flying competitor WorkBox, creating WorkBox UK. As a specialist in helping businesses transform their working environments, Matt looks forward to applying his straightforward approach to developing the Chamber for The Future!
