TECH SPOTLIGHT Prism Energy Launches New Application to
Improve Oil and Gas Project Performance An Aberdeen-based company has created a lessons learned management system that captures critical project data and helps inform the future performance of complex oil and gas developments globally.
Prism Energy, which provides project and risk management applications and consultancy, has worked closely with Genesis over the past 12 months to build a bespoke solution that will assist continuous development.
Track is a cloud-based system designed to improve performance by recording and analysing lessons learned and experiences to ensure knowledge gained during the project phase is preserved.
The technology, which can be accessed from any location, will allow Genesis to demonstrate that it is proactively tracking and managing lessons learned to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
The three-year contract will see the solution rolled-out to Genesis’ 1,000-strong workforce through a phased approach, covering 10 international locations, including the North Sea.
Designed to offer complete visibility of the project database from a single access point, Track is updated in real-time and can be used between different teams, suppliers or partners for collaboration from the project outset to end of life.

“Prism Energy worked closely with us to develop a flexible system which suited our needs and can be easily administered and tailored for any future changes to the business.”
Andy Sutherland, Director at Prism Energy, has 15 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry having worked in project management roles for various oil operators and engineering companies.
He said: “By providing greater visibility of the project database, Track helps identify common risks and threats across the entire project database, rather than treating individual scopes in isolation.
“Through working with Genesis, we identified that there was no standardised approach to storing and sharing information between regions; meaning there was a danger of errors or sub-optimal behaviour being repeated in different areas of the business.
“The introduction of Track provides Genesis with greater transparency across all aspects of its operations and helps meet the industry demand for greater efficiency through a drive to adopt digital systems.
“It has the potential to aid all types of businesses, not only across the oil and gas industry but further afield due to the fact that it can be made completely bespoke depending on the client’s requirements.”
Based at the Deemouth Business Centre, South Esplanade East, Prism Energy is a specialist project and risk management consultancy with a focus on software. It supports the successful delivery of project scopes, including maintenance and plant shutdown, for companies operating in the oil and gas industry.
Founded in 2016, the business has developed a series of software applications, including Hurdle for risk management, Relay for action management and Track for lessons learned. It works with oil and gas operators and large international service companies.
