Summer of Faith, 2019 FPCA children and youth learned about faith— and put it into action

BY KATHY SCHMIED

Vacation Bible School First Presbyterian Church partnered with Nativity Lutheran Church this year to offer “ROAR! Life Is Wild—God Is Good!” to 150 children. One hundred youth and adult leaders joined in the fun with the children as we learned something new each day about God’s goodness and constancy. On Monday, we learned: “When life is unfair, God is good.” On Tuesday, the message was “When life changes, God is good.” Troughout the rest of the week, “When life is scary/sad/ good,” we were reminded that God is good!

We sang. We danced. We heard Bible stories. We played outside games. We did activities. We even Skyped with new friends in Kenya! No matter where we were, what we did, or what we heard, we knew that God is good! In the midst of all this activity, we had tons of God Sightings; God’s presence was everywhere!

Tis year’s mission project gave us the opportunity to show God’s goodness to others through our collection of lots of school supplies for children near and far. St. Stephen’s Outreach Center in Allentown runs an after- school learning academy for surrounding elementary school students during the school year, and they were grateful for the supplies we collected. A local Parkland High School student approached us about helping support schoolchildren in Kenya with our collection of school supplies, and the really cool thing was that we were able to actually talk to them, see where they live and go to school, and hear about their life’s ups and downs—God is good!

Tis amazing experience wouldn’t have been possible without all the folks who helped prepare … everything! Tird Day Worship Center on Hanover Avenue in Allentown partnered with us to share décor. God is truly good.
