Day of Fun, Fellowship,
and Jesus Members and friends pack the bus for a trip to Sight and Sound Theatre BY SHERRY DEAL
It started when pastors Stephen Emick and Jack Haberer thought a bus trip would be a nice addition to First Presbyterian’s fellowship activities. Tey approached me about putting the trip together because I make arrangements for FPCA’s Youth Choir Tour trips.
We decided to offer a day trip to see Jesus, a production depicting Christ’s life and ministry at Sight and Sound Teatre in Lancaster, which specializes in presenting Bible stories live on stage. We booked Elite Coach out of Ephrata to provide transportation with my favorite driver, John
Orlando, at the wheel. John used to drive for our Youth Choir Tours when we would charter Bieber Bus. We had 45 FPCA members, friends of the church, and members of the Lehigh Valley community fill the bus for the trip, which took place on Saturday, August 24.
Our first stop was Shady Maple in Earl, east of Lancaster. Shady Maple started as a farm stand and for 33 years has offered its famous smorgasbord, which in 2018 served more than 1.3 million customers. We had a delicious lunch, with too many tasty options to name!
Back on the bus, we drove 30 minutes through Amish country to Sight and Sound Teatre for the 3 p.m. Jesus show. It was a very moving, awe-inspiring production presented on three stages with live animals, wind, water, and light effects, and an aerial flying angel.
Te show depicted the life of Jesus from a young boy in the temple to the miracles he performed as an adult on earth and included his death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven, accompanied by his 12 disciples and lots of townspeople. Te music and vocals were excellent, too!
Pastor Jack led a brief discussion about the show on the bus as we headed home. Everyone asked when we are going on our next bus adventure!
