‘Flat Jesus’ Was
Everywhere FPCA members and friends have fun documenting where Christ accompanied them this summer
In a variation on the Flat Stanley photographs popular with many schoolchildren, church members and friends were encouraged this summer to bring Flat Jesus along on their vacations or other activities and photograph him — a reminder that Jesus is with us wherever we go.
Flat Jesus drawings were made widely available, including at our summer after-service Face Time program (see page 9). Many participants took time to color the Jesus figure outlined in the black-and-white template.
By the end of the summer, boards around the church were full of Flat Jesus photos from a wide variety of places and situations as families, members, and friends traveled or relaxed. Many of the photos were also posted on church social media accounts such as Facebook.
In the photos, Flat Jesus was documented at baseball games, tourist sites, bike rides, picnics, swimming pools, sit-down meals, beaches, youth ministry trips and activities, gardens, movies, and more.
Te Flat Jesus project proved to be a fun but ultimately powerful way to reinforce the message that Christ’s presence isn’t limited to a sanctuary or church building but extends to every corner of the world and every moment of our lives — even when touring a Bush’s Baked Beans factory or stopping for Krispy Kreme doughnuts (and three guesses which of our pastors took that particular picture).
