KEITHByron Patey (69) lived locally his whole life, spending his final 41 years living on the Vinters Park estate. Brought up in Shepway, Keith a�ended
Parkway School followed by Southborough Juniors and Southborough Seniors before taking his apprenticeship. Keithworked in
design for Reed’s Corrugated Cases, later serving as special products manager.He retired
at 52, but returnedwithin sixmonths because his specialist skillswere required by the company.He finally retired aged 58.
Keithwasmarried to Christina for
almost 46 years, andwas father to Kiri and Karla. Christina said: “Keithwas an easy- goingmanwhowas generally happy and very friendly.Outside of his family, his main passionwas cricket and he played for teams including his school,Aylesford PaperMill andWest Farleigh. “Keith also played in the KMandDavid
Clarke Evening League and for a time played forGodlands in Tovil.He also loved sport on television, especially darts, snooker and FormulaOnemotor racing.” Keith leaves hiswife, daughters and
grandchildren Poppie, Jacob,Harry, Kaine andOliver.

BRYAN Dewar (72) lived in Spot Lane for more than 40 years.He joined Kent Police in 1968, retiring as an inspector in 1998. His career included service at Gillinghamand Sheerness, Traffic Division at Canterbury, Maidstone and Ashford;Operations Centre,Driving School and Training School.On retirement he became CCTV co-
ordinator, then crime reduction officer at Maidstone Police Station, before finally retiring in 2005. Colleagues remember him as a true gentleman,with a great sense of humour, alwayswilling to help anyone. He enjoyed an active retirementwith his
wife Be�y, oftenwalking inMote Park.He was particularly proudwhen they climbed Snowdon, inWales, in 2008. Hewas a devoted familyman and loved
playingwith his grandchildren. Bryan leaves hiswife Be�y, daughters Karen and Tracey and grandchildrenDan, Josh, Peter and Rebecca.

MARION Cole (87) lived inAylesford from1973 until her death on July 2. BornMarion Slaughter in London, she
grewup in Greenwich and aftermeeting andmarrying Peter, her husband of 51 years,Marion movedwith himto westAfrica. DaughtersAmanda and Sallywere born in the intervening years before the family returned to the UK and se�led locally inMaidstone whereMarion
worked as an accountant for Kimberley Clark. The familymoved toAylesford in 1973
whereMarionwill be remembered for her years of service in the parish of St Peter & St Paul’s Church,Aylesford, and her 16 years of service as a Conservative councillor for the Borough of Tonbridge andMalling. Shewasmademayor in 1993 andwas given the freedomof the borough in
1996.Marion’s time in local government included a particular interest in housing and she served on the local housing association in Tonbridge andMalling. DaughterAmanda said: “Mymother
was incredibly compassionate and helped somany people. She had a lively and intelligentmind and a thirst for knowledge – in the last years of her life teaching beginners Latin for the University of the ThirdAge, and onmost
days completing the Times Cryptic Crossword.Wewill remember her as a loving and generousmother and grandmother .” Marion –whowaswidowed in 2006 –
leaves her daughters, grandchildren Amy, Elliot, Sam,Alex, Lydia and Lara and twin great-grandaughters Emma and Amelia.

THE sudden death ofmotorcycle enthusiast DaveManser (66) in Herne Bay prompted a reaction frombikers across the county. Dave,whoworked as a lorry driver, was found dead by Cheryl, hiswife of 35 years, on 30 July, having failed to come to bed the previous night. Hewas father to

had forced his retirement.
His funeral at Barham, near
Canterbury, on 14August included a motorcycle escortmade up of bikers fromaround the county after Cheryl had used the newsmedia and socialmedia to ask for asmany people as possible to take part in the event. Dave leaves hiswife, sons and 11 grandchildren.
