Braunton Rotary Citizen Of the Year Award

Braunton and District Fundraising Group were thrilled to receive the Citizen of the year award for their work for Cancer Research UK in July.

‘We were pleased to think that the work that we do has been recognised by the Rotary. We enjoy working for this great cause and know that what we do helps in a small way to give hope and support to those who have Cancer. This award helps to make what we do even more worthwhile.

We are a small group of mainly retired ladies who have been working over the last 6 years to raise money to help fund life-saving research. Fundraising over this time has raised £36,687. Donations we have received from folk in the North Devon area, also raised over £11,728 this includes donations from funerals and wills.

Since October 2018, the start of our financial year, we have sent over £11,849 to CRUK. Approximately £3,000 from fundraising and the rest from some very big donations from wills and funerals.

Volunteering, fundraising and taking part in events is our way of helping to provide the money required to make research possible. There is no government funding, so Cancer Research relies on the generous support of people like the folk in Braunton to support their work.

We are always looking for help with our fundraising and if anyone has time on their hands and would like to join us, we meet once a month at “The Venue” in Wrafton Road and we would be very pleased to see you. Please email alisonanncasey@googlemail.com for further details.
