His solid-state circuit designs are lauded as classic exemplars of the type; when asked what makes him differ- ent to other audio electronics designers, he once replied, “I have circuit sense”. Today, Curl works with a select group of highly reputed au- dio companies. iFi Audio and AMR are delighted to reap the benefits of the exceptional ex- perience he has gained whilst devising some of the finest au-

Sister-companies iFi Audio and Abingdon Music Research (AMR) have announced that John Curl, one of the world’s most respected high-end audio engi- neers, has been engaged as a Technical Consultant.
Curl is working across all new product designs from iFi and AMR, collaborating closely with iFi’s Technical Director Thor- sten Loesch to ensure that all circuit designs are fully opti- mised. The first products to feature his input include iFi’s forthcoming ZEN range of desktop audio products – the first of which launches at the end of August – together with all-new high-end components from AMR, due in 2020. John’s status at the forefront of high-end audio’s hall of fame has long been secure. In 1968, whilst building a mixing con- sole for the Grateful Dead, he developed a solid-state circuit that became a benchmark in high-performance audio – the “complimentary differential in- put” circuit, which still appears in application handbooks pub- lished by transistor manufac- turers today.
SMPTE has appointed Frank Kun- kle as its new Director of Mar- keting.
This led to Curl working with a young Mark Levinson in the early 1970s, creating the leg-
endary Mark Levinson Audio Systems JC-2 preamplifier – the first standalone product to incorporate Curl’s complemen- tary differential input circuit – followed by the ML-2 Class A power amplifier. He went on to work with many other lumi- naries of the high-end audio scene, including Dave Wilson and Jeff Roland.

As part of this very strategic role, Hewitt will lead the de- velopment and deployment of various training materials, workshops, and industry ed- ucational programs. Hewitt's 10 years of Riedel experience has covered roles from user to consultant and he has worked extensively with many key cus- tomers in the region including Lighthouse Church in Singa- pore, TV18 in India, PCCW in Hong Kong, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. “Having excellent equipment is only half the story. Having amazing operators and engi- neers

Vincent Luke, Sales Director at iFi Audio and AMR, said: “We are excited to have the oppor- tunity to add John’s exceptional expertise to our talented team of technical designers, led by Thorsten Loesch. His insight will help us to further raise the sonic bar with products from both iFi and AMR – from portable and desktop audio to the very finest high-end hi-fi components, we will continue to push the boundaries of de- sign, functionality and perfor- mance.”

strengthen pan-re-

sport and event
broadcast for events such as the America's Cup and Ryder Cup, Joubert will focus on sup- porting the Asia-Pacific region by developing a more localised approach.
"Our marketing strategy needs to reflect, both, the differenc- es and similarities in customer motivations and requirements across this economically and culturally diverse region while providing a conduit to the full range of Riedel's knowledge and global experience," said Joubert. "To be effective in our communication and have a gen- uine impact, we have to be able to talk to our customers where they are, in a language they un- derstand. By developing local support structures, we increase our ability to influence deci- sions and deliver positive out- comes for Riedel."
