When it comes to colour – whether in the kitchen or the bathroom – the last couple of years have brought about a renewed sense of bravery. While many clients still opt for safe white of course, the subtle (and not- so-subtle) alternatives being offered by manufacturers have influenced the decision-making process and enticed some homeowners to choose something a little bolder than might have been the case a few years ago.


So, in this issue we take a look at what it really means to live with colour in our homes, how a particular colour selection can impact on our day-to-day mindset – and some of the mistakes and misapprehensions that can all too often limit interior potential.


Expect plenty of colourful interventions throughout London Design Festival this month. Check out our preview of this annual celebration of creativity in the capital for a round-up of the things you really ought to see if you’re heading along to some of the many varied events taking place during the event.


We also pause to acknowledge the huge contribution to contemporary kitchen design of Gerd Bulthaup, Managing Partner of the eponymous German kitchen furniture brand, who sadly died last month after a short illness. Taking over the family business founded by his father, Bulthaup revolutionised the company’s branding and product portfolio during several decades, presiding over the introduction of a series of transformational kitchen designs – not least the landmark b3 with its multi-function wall system – that continue to inspire and influence the design of modern homes today.
