Creative Director of Dulux, Marianne Shillingford adds: “Colour is one of the most powerful forms of non- verbal communication. We use it to express who we are, how we feel and where we are from. We choose it for the way it engages us emotionally as much as for the way it looks.” Our personal preferences can also


have a big impact on the way that we experience colour, according to Patrick O’Donnell, Brand Ambassador at Farrow & Ball. He says: “If you don’t like a particular colour group, such as yellows, you probably won’t feel the same energising benefit as someone who loves it, so don’t be afraid to trust your instincts.”


IMPROVED WELL BEING This powerful emotional connection that we all have to colour makes it an important tool for creating an emotionally healthy home. “By surrounding ourselves with the right colours we can enhance our emotional wellbeing and improve


our day-to-day mood,” says Starmer. “Colours influence and interact with our emotional and spiritual wellbeing, heighten the senses and help to restore the balance between mind and body. Be clear and honest about which colours you love and want to surround yourself with; these are the colours that resonate with you – they make you feel happy, calm and comfortable.”


Shillingford agrees and says that good colour is like good food. “It nourishes and has great taste in equal measure. It can be used to uplift a space and the way you feel in it. It can also be used to make spaces
