CGI images show what Woking FC's new stadium and development could look like

Woking Football Club held its first public consultation on the proposed development of their Kingfield Road stadium last week.

The proposal

Woking Football Club, in partnership with GolDev Woking, is bringing forward proposals for a modern stadium, with multi- purpose facilities and capacity for around 10,000 spectators. To make it a reality, a new neighbourhood will be built at

Kingfield, called Cardinal Court, comprising approximately 1,100 homes. The development will deliver a mix of studios, one, two, and three-

bedroom apartments, two-bedroom duplexes and townhouses set across five residential apartment buildings. Affordable homes will be provided, although the number has not yet been confirmed. If approved, the neighbouring David Lloyd club will relocate to

Egley Road behind the Wyevale Garden Centre and Hoe Valley School, where they will provide a new Health and Racquet Club. Alongside the new David Lloyd, around 40 new family houses

homes will be built at Egley Road. A mix of three, four and five- bedroom homes will be provided. Ian Cooney, associate director at Holmes Miller Architects

Glasgow, the designers of the stadium, said: “The stadium is designed for match day and non-match day - it will have community facilities - so it’s a sustainable design.”

What’s next?

Planning applications for both the stadium and Cardinal Court will be submitted to Woking Borough Council later this summer. If approved, work will commence in May 2021 and the stadium will take approximately two years to build.

Redcar Racecourse proposes grandstand extension

Redcar Racecourse has submitted plans to build an extension to its grandstand. It plans to demolish the existing Zetland Bar and extend the

Petch Stand with a three-storey facility. The building will contain toilets on the ground floor, the

"Premier Bar" on the first floor and a new owners and trainers facility on the second floor. External terrace areas on the first and second floor will offer

views across the track, winning line and parade ring. A design and access statement –prepared by Harris Irwin Associates on behalf of Redcar Racecourse Ltd – said the

Zetland Bar is "ageing and dated and in desperate need of repair or refurbishment." "Following a review from the racecourse it has been concluded

that it would make more commercial sense to demolish and extend the Petch Stand to provide additional facilties that the racecourse needs," it added. Redcar Racecourse hosts 18 days of flat racing from March

to November and is also a conference and events centre throughout the year. Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council will now consider the

plans.
