Should you bump into me over the next few weeks, please forgive me if I speak in a slightly southern accent, I'm smitten by Nashville after a recent visit and I keep falling into the southern drawl without warning! I used to do the same after a trip to Ireland when I was little!

The people happen to be the politest I've ever come across on my travels, the food is overly generous with wickedly good steaks, the incredible breadth of music fills the street Downtown and draws you in, the pace is slower and the fact that they go even more out of their way for an English accent ensured my time there in July was simply unforgettable. Ahead of my trip I was chatting with Midge Ure who told me I'd love it – he said it was the 'capital of music and the people make you feel most welcome' – he wasn't wrong! The fourth of July was simply awesome, akin to our New Year’s Eve celebrations, just with heat!

For this issue I excitedly chatted to explorer Steve Backshall, if you haven’t been watching his new series trust me, you’re missing out on something awesome. He spent 12 months uncovering and exploring parts of our planet where no humans have set foot. He nearly died in the process too. It’s crazy to think that today there are parts of our planet yet to be understood and its secrets uncovered, but there are – enough for a second season too which Steve tells me in this interview he’s ‘undecided about now he is a father’! Read the interview to find out more…

August appears to be silly season for events, both business and pleasure, my fingers are crossed that the warmer weather we've enjoyed recently continues, as many of the parties planned in my diary are outdoors. Having suffered with pollen for the first time in my life this year, I'm also planning to carry a large handbag to ensure the medicine cabinet required to keep the effects at bay are to hand! My sympathies to those who suffer with it – I now know your pain!
