Halesworth & Southwold Community News August 2019 13 Linstead Village Hall

Drive along the B1123 from Halesworth towards Harleston, and Linstead seems to be just a few houses between Chediston and Metfield. Despite its small physical centre, Linstead Magna and Parva combined have a huge communal spirit. Central to this is our village hall. Built in the 1920s it is actually an old fashioned ex WW1 mess hut. Its day to day maintenance

and upkeep

is thanks to one splendid couple. He also takes on bigger tasks, as he was a builder, sometimes with the help of some parishioners. When needed a painting party or roofing gang will

be assembled with willing volunteers, when it hands to the pump.

is all

In 2015 it was decided we needed to upgrade our facilities to make the hall accessible for those with a disability. installing

a ramp generously

This meant and

altering the main entrance porch. Funds raised were supplemented

by a grant from the Locality budget which we were able to bid for thanks to Stephen Burroughes, our local district councillor. A village resident architect

helped

with drawing up plans and in applying

permissions needed. All this for various

took time and work could not proceed until 2016. Hand in hand with these works had to be the alteration of toilet facilities which has also included a baby changing table. A year on and another tranche of the grant meant that this was financially achievable. Everything is now complete making the hall suitable for everybody.

Inspired by these achievements,

Chediston

and Linstead WI, which meet at the hall, have purchased a roving microphone and amplifier which can be used by anyone at other events by arrangement.

The next event at the hall is our quintessential village fete offering these five essentials: Fantastic Finds, Food, Fun, Friendship, something

for all the Family: stalls including

cakes, re-homed treasures, raffle, hand-made wooden items, books and more with lots of traditional games for all, plus a display of

classic and vintage cars. Excellent

course. All this happens on Saturday 3rd August, 2.30pm at

hall with parking on the adjacent

field. We look forward to greeting

everybody. For
