Kayaking increasing in popularity as an affordable, fun way to enjoy the lake

Joanne Bratton For Living Well | Photos by Kevin Pieper

As the morning sun begins to warm the lake, light breaks through the hazy, distant coves. A soft breeze ruffles the water, making it lap gently against the rocks. Four geese honk loudly overhead, a startling sound amidst the silence of water, rocks and trees. • A group of kayakers are taking advantage of the summer’s early morning calm in the Jordan area of Norfork Lake, pad- dling near shore to take in the area’s beauty. • While kayaking has long been popular in Ozark rivers and creeks, in recent years it has become an increasingly popular activity on the lake.
