Newton's AGRICULTURAL SERVICES
WELCOME to your August issue!
What another wonderfully busy month we've had. Firstly, I must share our exciting news that The Farmart magazine has been shortlisted for an award! Along with 6 other finalists, we'll find out at the awards ceremony on 11th October who's won the Best Rural Communications /Media category in the Rural Business Awards Northern region finals. So, I'll keep you posted on that nearer the time.
On the subject of winners, many hundreds of farmers enjoyed a farm walk recently around Halton Farm, nr Congleton. As the Supreme Champion Farm in the Cheshire Farms Competition the Halton family and their strong team showed us all what dedication they have to running a great dairy herd and sound commercial business. You can read their story on page 30. Take a look at the many other winners in the different categories at
www.cheshirefarmscompetition.co.uk. If you've not entered the competition before, then it's certainly worth considering, not just for a potential prize, but as an exercise in looking objectively at your business and what it can achieve.
Sadly, many of us will have been affected by the closure of Beeston Livestock Market recently. With no market in Cheshire currently, farmers will have to adapt to find other methods of buying & selling. There'll be changes not only with the commercial impact, but socially too. A good catch up with friends and neighbours is very often a big part of a market visit. It's essential that those who work in isolated jobs engage with others, so do make steps to maintain a good social network olongside your farming life. Both RABI and the Cheshire Agricultural Chaplaincy have an action plan in place to help anyone affected by the market closure.
Mission 4 Milk is now taking their campaign to the roadside in a bid to get the health message out to the wider public. Donations from the raffle at the Cheshire Farms Competition Farm Walk are being put towards funding farm signs and roadside banners. Anyone who has a farm or land that has a lot of passing traffic, please get in contact with Andy at Mission 4 Milk via social media @Mission4Milk or on email –
milk@hillsgreen.co.uk to claim your FREE banner!
Finally don’t forget to put the Cheshire Ploughing Match in your diary September 25th. Look forward to seeing you there!
