ummer is here and I’m excited because it’s my favorite season – I love the warm weather, fresh fruits and veggies, farm to table dinners, festivals and time spent on the beach or at a lake. Don’t miss our great articles this month on healthy meal planning, summer skincare tips, seasonal fruits and veggies, and maximiz- ing your mental, emotional and physical potential. And speaking of summer - when is the last time you let loose and had some serious fun? In the world we live in today,
we are pushed harder and harder to manage every second of our time, work longer hours, be disciplined and take care of everyone but ourselves. Well, it’s about time we all remembered how to play and bring some fun back into our busy lives.
Can any of you remember the last time you were on a swing, threw a Frisbee,
body surfed the waves at the beach? These are truly life’s greatest pleasures for a kid, why not an adult. Some highly successful companies have brought a sense of humor and play into their workplace. Google allows employees to bring their pets and musi- cal instruments to the offi ce. As cited in Daniel Pink’s book, “A Whole New Mind”, the Wall St. Journal reported that more than 50 European companies have brought in “Serious Play” consultants that train executives with Lego building blocks.
So, what is the defi nition of play for you? It could be hanging out with good
friends, playing a sport you love, dancing with your children, watching a funny movie or jumping on that swing. Whatever it is, make sure that you are having fun doing it and it makes you laugh. Play is something that we should engage in on a daily basis even if only for a short period of time. On a weekly basis, we should try and fi nd longer periods of time to really let loose and enjoy ourselves. Remember, part of the reason we are here in this lifetime is to have all different kinds of experiences, having fun and playing being one of them. It shouldn’t be an activity restricted to children or a certain period in your life. You should incorporate play into your life for your entire lifetime. Find one thing you love to do that brings you joy and makes you laugh and do it today or this weekend. Then try and incorporate more and more aspects of play into your daily and weekly schedule. You will fi nd that these times of rest, rejuvena- tion and fun will allow you to return to your job or business with renewed excitement and mojo momentum to keep reaching for those ultimate goals and dreams.
