The best way to enjoy the sun safely is to use a combination of shade, clothing and sunscreen. Here are some top tips from Cancer Research UK.


FIND SHADE If you are out and about, look for trees and foliage, umbrellas or canopies to protect your skin. Shade will protect you but it is possible that sun can still get through or bounce off other structures. So you still need to think about clothing and sunscreen.


COVER UP Choose clothing that’s loose-fitting and deeper in colour. Look for a close weave – hold the material up to see if you can see through it. Dry clothes offer better protection than wet clothes – particularly those made of cotton.


SUNSCREEN Buy sunscreens with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 (UVB protection) or High star rating with at least 4 stars (UVA protection). Make sure that you use enough sunscreen – two teaspoonfuls for head, arms and neck. If you are doing the whole body think tablespoons
