PULSE WELCOME TO THE KENT AND MEDWAY SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE PULSE The Kent & Medway School Sports Magazine Foreword

Welcome to the latest edition of Pulse, the Kent and Medway Primary School Sports Magazine.

The Department for Education has recently confirmed that it will fund the primary PE and sport premium for the 2019/20 academic year. A total of £320 million will again be made available to primary schools in England to improve the quality of PE and sport which I am sure you will agree is fantastic news! It is extremely important to remember that the funding should only be used to expand current provision or on sustainability (teacher training etc).

The government will also soon be releasing a school sports action plan which will hopefully give a much clearer picture on how they believe this funding should be utilised moving forwards.

In this edition of Pulse, we explore some of the great work going on in schools throughout Kent and Medway, speak to Kent Sport’s new The Daily Mile Local Co- ordinator, and we will be looking at the success of the School Games this year and the events coming up during the summer.

We are also delighted to bring you some new updates from the Youth Sports Trust as well as a great article detailing how physical literacy and literacy can be taught at the same time via Richard Cheetham’s ‘Moving Stories’.

Please remember that the new reporting deadline for your use of the sport premium is 31 July 2019 (at the very latest). This should (hopefully) help show that children have learnt to swim 25m during the summer term and give a true reflection of who can or can’t swim the required distance by the end of their time with you.

If you have any questions or queries regarding the funding please feel free to contact me on 03000 412330 or alternatively email me on tim.sells@kent.gov.uk

I truly hope you have a great summer.

Yours in sport Tim Sells
