Jim Ingebrigtsen I s it just me?

Or do we define our lives in different ways? Some measure it in time, others in success, friends

and family, life experiences or changing hair colour or loss of. I recently had a birthday. I don’t celebrate them, I just have them. As we get older many of us tend to reflect on our past, as I did. I didn’t spend a lot of time on this because I don’t want to waste it cogi- tating over good times, bad times, never-had times. Not to be morbid, I must confess, along with my

love of music, I have always had a propensity toward melancholy and make no apology for it. Music is my measuring stick for my life. I had the opportunity while in radio and TV to spend time with scores of famous people. I started, out of curiosity more than anything, to make a list of those I met, interviewed, had dinner with in our house or theirs in this country or in the U.K. Then I realized some are no longer with us. The following are some I have had the plea- sure of meeting and who have passed on since 2000. Cue the melancholy.
