UNIVERSITY HAS NEW CHAMPIONS

Cranfield University’s professor Ron Corstanje and associate professor Steve Hallett have been co-appointed to the newly- created role of Constructing a Digital Environment Champion by the National Environment Research Council (NERC). This prestigious appointment will see the academics lead

and co-ordinate a new four-year programme on Constructing a Digital Environment, investigating the role of digital data in improving our understanding of environmental change. Ron Corstanje, professor of Environmental Data Science and

head of Centre for Environmental and Agricultural Informatics at Cranfield University, said: “This role will allow us to explore the potential of digital technology to generate a better understanding of the role of digital in acquiring knowledge about the environment and its response to global and local stresses and pressures.”

COMMS365 CELEBRATES SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES

CYBER SECURITY FOR LAW FIRMS

Technology experts ACS are helping lawyers to protect themselves from cyber attacks. Lawyers list cyber security as a

top challenge - second only to pricing - and as lawyers work in an increasingly mobile environment, the need to protect client information and case data has become even more of a challenge. Cyber Essentials lets everyone

know that a firm takes cyber security seriously and has measures in place to keep information secure. As an IASME Licensed

Certification Body, ACS offers fixed fee packages of consultancy, audit and certification for those practices seeking to secure Cyber Essentials security standards. ACS joint managing director Jon

Thorpe said: “If your firm has a significant number of clients in the commercial sector, you should consider Cyber Essentials Plus. Whilst essentially the same standard, to obtain the plus certification your firm will need to be independently tested. This is to ensure the technical controls are adequately enforced. “Whatever you choose, Cyber

Essentials is a UK Government backed standard. The scheme guards against the most common Cyber Security threats. These include firewalls and internet gateways, secure configuration, access control such as passwords and access levels, malware and virus protection and patch management which ensures that the latest supported software versions are in use.” Cyber Essentials is now a

requirement for Law Society members signed up to the popular Lexcel Standard. ACS technical experts understand the complexity of these requirements and can meet the assessors needs with minimum cost in a timely way.
