Stepping into the Hagans’ shop, the
clean, sharp scent of cedar is every- where. Cedar rocking chairs sit in neat rows, cedar chair parts are lined up on racks and cedar shavings are underfoot. Walter, standing at a lathe, cuts a block of wood with a chisel, shavings flying and landing at his feet. As usual, his loy- al dachshunds, Coco and Chloe, are close by. The Hagans can fulfill almost any
custom order, but rocking chairs have proved to be popular over the years. They make rocking chairs of all sizes, from immense 8-foot-tall giant chairs,

Walter Hagan, 68, sits in the chair that started it all for Hagan Rockers. It was made from white bay wood in 1931 by his father, Lloyd.
