“It’s so rewarding because I would do
this if I weren’t selling them — I would do it for a creative outlet,” says Karla, who lives in the Rea Valley area with her husband, Lucas Bradley, a neurosur- geon at Baxter Regional Medical Center, and their seven children. In keeping with her fun-loving per-
sonality, Karla gives each camper a dif- ferent theme, a catchy nickname and chooses a fitting song. When the camp- er’s transformation is complete, she posts a video on social media. Vintage campers are highly popular,
and it’s trendy to use them for mobile boutiques, food trucks, photos booths and vacation rentals. They can be claimed as a “she shed”
for a place to unwind, create or work. Or, in the case of Karla’s recent pro-
ject, they can be converted into a play- room.
Personalized playroom It may be unconventional, but the
1970 Airstream Caravanner makes a fun-filled play area for Karla’s children, who range in age from 1 to 11. The family’s current house doesn’t
have space for a playroom, so the camp- er nicknamed “Silver Troubadour” makes an ideal kid-friendly hangout, es- pecially during a rainy day. Off the front of the camper, a blue-and-white awning shades seven child-size chairs and a ta- ble. “The kids will ride their bikes to it
from the house and play,” Karla says. “They’re in here all the time.” With its neutral black-and-white col-
or scheme, the space is light-filled and airy, perfect for playing games, creating artwork or lying on the bunk bed and watching a movie.
