Wow, the end of the 86th Legislative Session is almost in site! Though I cannot tell you how it will end yet, I can report that TALHFA has had an impactful presence.

After many long hours of meetings and work, it was decided that we needed to open the Private Activity Bond (PAB) statute to create a more efficient and modern program, overall. Because the PAB program serves more than just housing, we wanted to bring all the impacted parties to the table. TALHFA, TAAHP, TDHCA, TSAHC, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (a state-voted issuer), and the Higher Education Authorities were all a part of the conversations. We participated in several meetings that brought all interest groups to the table to discuss and perfect the policy … and we did it!

The bill (SB1474) passed the Senate IGR Committee on April 8th. Hopefully, the language will be passed in a couple of different bills in the House and Senate and signed by the Governor.

As I sit in the Capitol Cafeteria and try to write this, among so much activity, I am reminded that I still have lots of work to do! I look forward to reporting on TALHFA’s success soon!
