LASTING POWERS OF
ATTORNEY – AGAIN? GOODWIN Cowley Solicitors is running a campaign to encourage and enable people not only to draw up a will but also lasting powers of attorney (LPAs). A Will makes your affairs more straightforward for those you leave behind after your death. A power of attorney appoints one or more people to deal with your affairs and make welfare decisions during your lifetime if you become unable to do so yourself. Greta Tancred, solicitor
at
Goodwin Cowley, explains: ‘Having LPAs in place can prove invaluable. For example, if you have a stroke or are in an accident, your attorney can deal with your personal finances and keep your home running’. Otherwise an application may have to be made to the Court of Protection for a deputy
to be appointed to deal with your affairs whilst you are ill, which could take many months and will potentially cost thousands of pounds.
Under a health and welfare
LPA, your attorney can make decisions e.g. about where you live and the personal and medical care you should receive, including end-of-life care if you wish, once you cannot make those decisions for yourself’.
During Spring, Goodwin Cowley offers to prepare a basic Will and a LPA for a single VAT included charge of £360 or £420 if you want both LPAs (£500 and £660 respectively for a couple). Contact details on their website or ring 01502 712999 (20 New Market Beccles) or 01502 532 700 (3 Regent Road Lowestoft).

MR Jody Lidgard was our speaker from Bespoke Outdoor Spaces. He told us from a young child he had a great love of gardening. With his slide show he told us about his journey into this career.
From working
at Bressingham Gardens in the design and landscape section he had an opportunity to work at the Chelsea Flower Show. From the success there he worked hard to develop other opportunities with other companies to return. Two years ago his big chance came at Chelsea where he designed a garden in the “triangle”, a prime

It took him a year to put it together, travelling the country looking at landscapes, rock formations, trees, shrubs and flowers for the design. With team work this won him a silver gilt at the show. His tip was staying calm when things do not always go as planned.
He is now a judge at big events all over the country. A vote of thanks was given by Daphne. Bonus ball winner was Jennie and raffle winners included Pat, Rose and Anita.

weekend there are two new black belts at Bungay Taekwondo Club which trains at the High School. Colby Aldrich aged 12 and Lewis Flatt aged 10 performed superbly in front of Grand Master Oldham (9th Dan) and Master Auicello (7th Dan) as well as various other senior grades in order to be awarded their coveted black belt. Colby and Lewis had to perform patterns, demonstrate techniques, perform free sparring and set sparring techniques, answer theory questions and submit a written thesis. The boys have been training twice a week at Bungay High School for nearly four years in order to develop their confidence, strength, flexibility and stamina before taking this examination. Taekwondo is a modern Korean form of Kickboxing based on Karate and other martial arts. It is an
Olympic sport in which Great Britain excels having won gold medals in the last two Olympics. These two students passing takes the black belt tally at the club to 51 since it opened in 2003 and Clinton Gillett (5th Dan) said, “I really think these
guys deserved to get
their dan grading as they have shown great determination and dedication whilst also being humble and respectful students”. The
club is very family
