The youngsters took time out of their busy school day to make special trips to Newton
Abbot’s Waterstones outlet to snap up some books.
World Book Day is held every year with the aim of promoting reading, publishing and copyright
‘Buzzing’ for books
THE Mad Hatter, Alice in Wonderland, Paddington Bear and many other book characters attended Teign School for World Book Day. Year 7 students threw themselves into the event, dressed up as their favourite characters from children’s tales old and new. A spokesman for the school said: ‘The school was buzzing as the Mad Hatter and Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third passed by Wally and Paddington in the corridors! ‘An exceptional amount of effort had been put in with the original costumes. ‘Each year seven tutor group had a “best costume” competition with a voucher for the winner and book prizes for the runners-up.
‘Well done to Tilly Urquhart (The Mad Hatter), Lewis Kinnair (The Boy in a Dress), Milly la Trobe (White Rabbit), Emily Rani (Gangsta Granny) and Thomas Doran (Hiccup) who took first place in their forms.’ School librarian Jo Halse added: ‘This was the first time for many years that we have asked students to come into school dressed as book characters.
‘It certainly added to the atmosphere of our World Book Day.
‘I hope the students enjoyed dressing up as much as the school enjoyed admiring their costumes.
