28 | THE INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF TOWING AND RECOVERY

As the birthplace of the Towing and Recovery industry, Chattanooga, Tennessee would seem to have been an obvious place for the “Friends of Towing” to locate a Hall of Fame and museum. And in 1995 they did just that. Featuring a number of immaculately restored vintage tow trucks and a variety of related equipment, the Museum of Towing & Recovery also hosts a Hall of Fame to honor notable contributions to in the industry, and much more!

32 | DEVELOPING THE NEXT-GENERATION WORK FORCE

ON THE COVER: In 1916, Ernest W. Holmes, Sr. was part of a group of men who assisted a friend with recovery of a Model T Ford that had crashed into a creekbed. Frustrated by the hours-long effort, Holmes was inspired to mount some rigging equipment on the rear of a 1913 Cadillac to create the first “wrecker”, and the towing and recovery industry was born. This replica of that vehicle can be found in Chattanooga, TN at the International Towing & Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn more in our feature starting on page 28 in this issue.
