production began in January [2019].” Underhill explained that the Rapide is
both goods and personnel rated (tested for up to three people as a fall arrest system), further enhancing its versatility. He added: “Due to its portability and ease of assembly, it is often used as a safer alternative to a tripod for confined space work, but it has been used in applications as varied as art galleries, water treatment works, and solar panel installation on floating pontoons on a lake in Cumbria.” The Rapide is perfectly suited to the
rigors of the hire market and the original version has proved its durability in a myriad of applications for the best part of a decade. Additionally, the ability to rent a gantry on a short-term basis for such a variety of tasks creates great utilization. As Underhill reiterated, one person can assemble the product in less than 60 seconds. The frames easily fold onto the beam, forming a compact, storable unit; a storage container keeps it safe during shipping and transportation to and from site. Tom Patterson, supply chain manager
at Speedy, said: “We’ve experienced the benefits of other products in the Reid range of lightweight gantry cranes and, as we continue to invest in the volume of innovative assets in this category, we’re pleased to offer our customers the option of the new 1,000kg capacity Porta-Gantry Rapide. The product boasts a number of features that will appeal to our customers and their varied applications.” Underhill concluded: “Reid has worked
closely with the hire industry for many years; the sector is often willing to embrace new product where there is a clear value-add on existing solutions. This investment further serves to illustrate Reid and Speedy’s successful partnership. Speedy’s willingness to invest in these new products shows that it is determined to provide the best possible products for customers. We know our equipment is among the top movers in the Speedy fleet and the 1,000kg capacity Porta-Gantry Rapide range will see that trend continue.” y

Deep South Crane & Rigging Adds Four Liebherr All-Terrain Mobile Cranes
STAHL CraneSystems brand SH Ex wire rope hoists to its advanced hoist product portfolio. The STAHL CraneSystems SH Ex wire rope hoist is available in five frame sizes with 26 load capacity variants from 1000 pounds to 30 tons in deck mount, monorail trolley, and double girder trolley models for use with standard, customized, or special crane applications. “Based on the SH wire rope hoist
platform, the explosion-protected SH Ex models allow for wider use in applications and industries with potentially hazardous environments,” said Thomas Kraus, global product manager, wire rope hoists. “Complying with ATEX, IECEx, and now NEC standards, the SH Ex wire rope hoist offers reliable operation, high efficiency, and increased safety.” Columbus McKinnon offers custom-
made SH Ex designs with lifting technology and components that comply with NEC approvals for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C & D hazardous locations with Temperature Class T4. NEC approvals are adoptable standards that signify the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment in hazardous locations that may include flammable gases, flammable liquid- produced vapors, or combustible liquid- produced vapors. The explosion-protected models are also
available with ATEX and IECEx approvals for EX Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, or Zone 22 hazardous locations. ATEX compliance, required in the European Union, certifies that the SH Ex is safe to use in potentially explosive areas with flammable gases or dust. IECEx equipment certification signifies that the SH Ex conforms to international safety standards for environments where a potential exists for explosions. The SH Ex is also available with spark-resistant features such as coated hooks, brass wheels, and brass drop lugs on trolley. To learn more about the explosion-

WIRE ROPE EXCHANGE
> Deep South Crane & Rigging recently acquired four Liebherr mobile cranes – two each of the LTM 1450-8.1, a 550 US-ton class crane, and the LTM 1300-6.2, a 360 US-ton class crane. The acquisitions give the company cranes with longer telescoping booms than it has had to date. Deep South Crane is a family-owned
and operated company known for providing some of the best tools in the industry. The company recently invested in the additional all-terrain Liebherr cranes to complement its growing fleet of equipment. “The Liebherr mobile cranes we own
are popular cranes, efficiently satisfying the needs of our customer base,” said Deep South President Mitch Landry. “It is nice that these new models have a longer telescopic boom, reducing the need to install a jib and allowing Deep South to work even more efficiently in congested areas.” Landry has been involved in the crane and rigging business since the early 1970s. The LTM 1450-8.1 features a 279-foot
telescopic boom designed to work without a guying system. This means it can travel from job to job with a minimum number of falloff loads and quickly be setup for use once it reaches the work site. The LTM 1300-6.2 is the most powerful
6-axle mobile crane on the market. It has 256 feet of telescopic boom and a maximum hook height of 374 feet when fully equipped. The crane was the first from Liebherr to feature the innovative single-engine concept. The engine in the crane chassis powers the hydraulic pumps in the superstructure via a mechanical shaft. The benefits of this concept include reduced maintenance work and lower weight, which can be used for load-bearing components for increased lifting capacity. Based in Baton Rouge, LA, Deep
South has more than 200 cranes with lifting capacities between 2.5 and 3,000 US-tons, a variety of specialized rigging and hauling equipment, 700 employees, and branch offices in four states and Cartagena, Columbia. With five decades of experience in heavy lift and transport solutions, Deep South invests in the best tools and the right talent to serve their client’s needs and remain competitive in the industry. y
