Who doesn’t love a livestock market café? With their home cooked hot food and freshly baked cakes, there’s always a warm welcome for those of us who work in wellies! Over the next few months we’ll be showcasing a recipe provided by various market cafés.
Ingredients
2lb steak chopped finely 1lb Self Raising Flour 4oz butter 4oz lard
Farmers’ Choice Café - Beeston Market Amanda, Lucy, Geraldine & Ady
Salt & Pepper Liquid to blend 2 Stock cubes Gravy granules Beaten egg to glaze
Use a 12 inch pie plate
Method
1 Make the pastry by rubbing the butter and lard into the flour, along with the seasoning.
2 Add the liquid gradually in order to bind the mix into a ball.
3 Roll out 1/2 and use to line the pie plate. 4 Cook the steak on the hob until tender. 5 Add 2 stock cubes, salt and pepper.
6 Thicken with gravy granules and pour into the lined pie plate.
7 Roll out the remaining pastry and place on the top to make the lid.
