New rules on abstracting water Water abstraction rules have changed and most previously exempt activities cannot continue without an abstraction licence in place. If you abstract more than 20 cubic metres per day and you want to continue to do so, you must apply to the Environment Agency for an abstraction licence: You can apply for a new licence abstraction at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/water- management-abstract-or-impound-water You can also phone 03708 506506 or email us at: enquiries@environment-agency.gov.uk to find out more.

New Projects Set To Tackle Pollution Hotspots Groundwork and the Environment Agency are working with businesses in Wharton (Winsford) and Sandbach to reduce levels of pollution entering the River Weaver and Gowy. River water quality is suffering from disperse releases of pollutants which can often be prevented through low or no cost changes to how companies manage their premises. The free confidential audits have been delivered to nearly 20 companies during February, with further work planned for early March to further tackle the issues identified. www.groundwork.org.uk/clm
