From Simon

Another year has begun, full of opportunities for Uniting Communities to support and enrich the lives of South Australians in need.

If this is your first edition of Unite, a very warm welcome and thank you for joining our wonderful donor community. We hope you enjoy reading our stories of hope, happiness and new beginnings.

Our Lifeline Christmas Appeal was a great success – thank you. The story of Phillip and his mum, Jo, touched many of you. We received so many generous donations and heartfelt messages of support.

It has now been 25 years since Uniting Communities first launched Ruby’s Reunification Program, our unique service helping young South Australians reconnect with their families – and break the cycle of homelessness. Last November we marked this special milestone with a special event, which you can read about on page 4.

On behalf of Uniting Communities, I wish you a healthy and safe year ahead.

From humble beginnings at the back of Clayton Wesley Uniting Church, Norwood, our café has transformed into a special place where everyone can participate and flourish.

After extensive renovations to create a professional new kitchen and stylish dining space, our café officially reopened to an enthusiastic crowd in February.

At Hope’s Café, community members in need of support can make new friends and develop a sense of belonging, while enjoying delicious food on a ‘pay what you can afford’ model.

Now, because of the support and generosity of people like you, we have even bigger dreams! We’re now operating as a training café, offering barista and hospitality staff training and development for volunteers.

We hope to see you soon for coffee at Hope’s Café!
