Securing Stadiums from Vehicle Attacks
In recent years we have seen a number of stadiums and tourist attractions become key targets for terrorist attacks due to the sheer volume of people who attend these venues. Most recently we’ve seen terror attacks at Manchester Arena,
the national football stadium in Paris and a football stadium in Paris. Although these weren’t all vehicle attacks, those looking to commit such offences see stadiums and arenas as easy targets which can result in significant devastation and multiple casualties. The use of vehicles as a way to undertake a range of crimes,
whether it be acts of terrorism, ram-raids or vandalism, has been a prominent feature of news headlines throughout 2018. With the evolving nature of these vehicle attacks requiring even greater innovation to mitigate, Heald is on hand to ensure that individuals can be protected from potential threats and that both buildings and their contents can be secured.
So what measures should be put in place to mitigate future attacks?
As one of the world’s leading hostile vehicle mitigation designers and manufacturers, Heald, invest significantly in research and development to enhance the range and functionality of products available on the market to meet the needs of the perimeter being protected. Many considerations need to be given such as, should you opt
for a permanent or temporary install? Is excavation an option or do you need a surface mount product? Do you need to provide an easy access flow for pedestrians? Do you need to enable access to permitted vehicles? Is there access to a suitable power supply if required?
Leading in innovation
With so many variants to consider, Heald has taken their 30 years’ experience of creating award winning road blockers and bollards to develop an award-winning product, known as The Matador, that would provide the highest level of security, have the ability to be installed permanently with shallow mount technology, or alternatively, be installed on a temporary basis on the surface. Available as a static or sliding bollard, surface or shallow
mount, the Matador has further developed to offer multiple power functions including hydraulic and electro-mechanical. The only product of its type on the market to be IWA-14
tested to halt a 7.2-tonne truck travelling at 40mph, the Matador can secure a perimeter that still enables access to authorised vehicles and emergency responders in the event of an incident in the insider of the perimeter. Having secured various stadiums and arenas around the world
including the London Olympics and more recently The World Snooker Championships at The Crucible in Sheffield, Heald have a range of perimeter security products to suit all requirements.
