RAFA Christmas Lunch and Commemoration


On Saturday, 12th January, the local Branch of the RaF association (RaFa), held their annual Christmas Lunch at the Three Horseshoes inn, north Cove. in addition to branch members, invited guests included the Mayor of Beccles, Cllr. Elfrede Brambley-Crawshaw and husband David, the branch Padre Rev Martin gowman OSB and supporters from St Benet's Minster, Beccles congregation. Welcoming those attending,


the Branch President Brian vousden commented, "it is a pleasure to welcome you all today and in particular, the Mayor of Beccles Cllr. Elfrede, as this location is very close to the site of RaF Beccles airfield, constructed in 1944 and now known as Ellough airport. This highlights the long association of the Town of Beccles and the Royal air Force. in addition to


this being our RaFa Branch Christmas Lunch, it also marks the tenth anniversary of the reinstatement of our branch in 2009 following an earlier closure of three years. it has been an Honour and a Privilege to serve initially as your Chairman for four years and also as your President for the past six years. Thank you for making my task so much easier. no one person can deliver the results that we see today. as many of you are aware,


we operate under a Royal Charter, however, receive no Central government funding and rely solely upon Corporate Donations, the general public and our members to provide the funds which enable us, via "Wings appeal", to give friendship, help and support to RaF serving and veteran personnel and their families who may be in need.
