Westcoast Holsteins brings home the prizes Chilliwack dairy takes championships in World Dairy Expo Red-and-White show

by DAVID SCHMIDT CHILLIWACK – After achieving only

lacklustre results at the 2017 World Dairy Expo, Jeff Kooyman said 2018 would be much better for Westcoast Holsteins in Chilliwack. He wasn’t kidding! Already the sponsor of the WDE international red-and-white show, Westcoast Holsteins was also named its premier exhibitor after bringing a total of five animals into the championship rounds. Best of the group was Oakfield A Shampagne-Red. The junior three-year-old was named the grand champion of the red- and-white show after earlier winning the intermediate championship. Standing right beside Shampagne in the intermediate championship was Westcoast Defiant Addison, the winner of the senior three-year-old class. Addison was not only named the reserve intermediate champion but also the best bred and owned female in the show, proving Westcoast can both buy and produce champion show cows. Westcoast also captured the reserve

senior red-and-white championship with their first-place five-year-old, Ms Apples Aleda-Red. Westcoast also earned a first in the

yearling heifer in milk class of the black-and- white Holstein show. Tom DeGroot of Chilliwack, co-owner of

last year’s WDE red-and-white champion, was not an exhibitor in the 2018 show. That’s because he was the associate judge of this year’s WDE red-and-white show.
